Porcelain veneers can be used to treat a variety of dental problems or cosmetic dental improvements.
Traditionally, dentists will place veneers for patients who want to correct discolored teeth, worn down teeth, chipped or broken teeth, uneven or misshaped teeth, or to correct gaps in between teeth.
Determining a plan to have porcelain veneers placed always starts with an initial exam or consultation. We will start by assessing your teeth by taking x-rays and/or making dental impressions of your mouth. Once we can determine what your tooth or teeth will need, we’ll then move forward with preparing your tooth for the veneer. After an impression of your mouth is taken, it will be sent out to a dental lab which will create your custom fit veneer.
Your tooth will be filed and shaped in order to accommodate the porcelain veneer. Your custom porcelain veneer will be designed to match the color of the rest of your teeth, giving you a natural look. Your veneer may need to be trimmed to achieve a perfect fit for your mouth. Once the veneer has achieved the correct color and fit for your tooth, the bonding process will begin. Your dentist will clean, polish & etch your tooth to ensure the best possible bonding process. The porcelain veneer will be bonded to your tooth using a special resin or “cement”, followed by an application of light to your tooth which will seal & harden the bond between your tooth and your new porcelain veneer.
